Todd Cordell: New Jersey Devils player profile: Nikita Gusev

Just praying we can keep him past next season.

Love the guy. He did a great job adjusting to the NHL and just drips skill.

The new GM needs to sign/extend this guy ASAP. If not, time to maximize his value for a trade because this team is not playoff bound next year. I hate typing that last sentence, just being realistic though.

Shero really brought this club into relevancy. We were a joke 2 years ago, had what appeared to be a unanimous #1 offseason, and fell flat. Not his fault. He recruited Butch and Gusev, who could easily become major trade assets, or remain with this club for the long haul. The fact that goose is only playing 14:30 a night is astonishing. He could be a 1ppg player if he was playing 19+ like most the 1ppg guys in this league. Hopefully a 3-5 year extension around 5.5m AAV can be inked asap

If it’s working why mess with it? But if we have a new coach and a regular preseason there is nothing wrong with trying different players together.
